  • Mental Illness Awareness Week

    The first full week of October is Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) in recognition of National Alliance for Mental Illness’s (NAMI's) efforts to raise mental illness awareness. Since 1990, mental health advocates across the country have joined together during the first full week of October in sponsoring many kinds of activities. To learn more visit the NAMI webpage.

  • National Disability Employment Awareness Month

    National Disability Employment Awareness Month is sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of Labor. The goal is to raise awareness in communities and recognizing the contribution of people with disabilities in the workforce as well as recognizing the need for increased opportunities in competitive employment for people with disabilities.   • Domestic Violence Awareness Month

    Domestic Violence Awareness Month is sponsored by the National Resource Center for Domestic Violence. In October individuals and communities are urged to raise awareness around preventing and ending domestic violence.   • Disability History Week (Third Week of October)

    It is important that our youth understand history in order to appreciate how individuals with disabilities were once viewed and treated. Students will be provided with the opportunity to learn how people with disabilities were instrumental in changing history, and how they became active participants in changing societal attitudes about their needs, desires & capabilities...more.
