1-day Recertification Class

2014 Training Schedule:

March 11 - Flatwoods (DHHR Building)
April 24 - Martinsburg (Jefferson Co Health Dept)
May 7 - Charleston (Kanawha Co Helath Dept)
 

Recertification is required 3 years after the initial HIV Counseling and Testing Training.

Purpose:

This one day recertification workshop of the HIV Counseling and Testing course is required every three years after the initial two day training. The goal of the workshop is to improve the ability of providers in a variety of settings to support individuals in making behavior changes that will reduce their risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV. It is based on a CDC  CDC developed curriculum.

All trainings run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  

Objectives:

Upon the completion of this recertification workshop, participants will be able to:
 
· Define client centered HIV prevention counseling
· Describe factors that affect a client’s behavior
· Demonstrate through practice sessions all the steps of HIV prevention counseling
 
The Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling and Testing workshop is required for all medical professionals who submit HIV specimens to the WV State Lab. The state lab keeps all approved testers names on file for three years. After three years this one day Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling update training refresher course will allow the lab will keep the approved testers names for an additional three years.

Continuing education activity has been provided by the West Virginia Local Performance Site of the PA/MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center for 7 contact hours. The West Virginia Local Performance Site is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the State of West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses. WVBRN provider registration number WV2000-0303RN.18. This activity is also for Licensed Practical Nurses for 7 contact hours.

Class size is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. This training session is dependent upon the number of pre-registrations.
