Division of Tuberculosis Elimination

The mission of the West Virginia Division of Tuberculosis Elimination is to achieve the absence of indigenous transmission of tuberculosis infection in West Virginia, which results in clinically apparent tuberculosis disease.

The DTE provides tuberculin testing materials to Local Health Departments for contacts and other high risk persons. We also provide x-rays for evaluation of active disease and latent TB infection (LTBI) through Local Health Departments. Clinicians are provided for chest diagnostic clinics to evaluate/treat active disease and LTBI. We provide medications as well as financial support to Local Health Departments to do Liver Function Tests for TB cases and LTBI patients. We work with the Office of Laboratory Services to provide AFB smear and culture testing, drug susceptibilities and DNA fingerprinting of specimens.
