Consumer Affairs & Community Outreach

CACO PictureThe Office of Consumer Affairs and Community Outreach (CACO) is a relatively new section of BBHHF, established in line with recommendations made by the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD). Many of the staff in the office are self-identified consumers/survivors/people in recovery and the office is charged with serving as a systems change agent. In this role, the office is assisting BBHHF with operationalizing the principles of a Recovery Oriented System of Care, with an accompanying emphasis on optimizing treatment services, expanding recovery support services, developing community capacity and integrating systems of care, and helping to align BBHHF’s fiscal and administrative policies with recovery-oriented approaches. More specifically, CACO is charged with providing collaborative support to the clinical section of the Office of Programs through the provision of legislative tracking, disaster coordination and response, development and operation of a Consumer Advisory Council, coordination of BBHHF training activities, researching and circulating information on evidence-based and emerging best practices, development of health promotion and wellness campaigns, researching and applying for high priority discretionary grants, and by providing a centralized response to requests for assistance and patient grievances.
