Mumps may have returned to Ohio State

Mumps might be rearing its head again at Ohio State University, where officials are awaiting confirmation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that an illness that looks like mumps was, in fact, caused by the virus.
Another person at the university had mumps symptoms, but lab tests run locally did not confirm the virus, said Columbus Public Health spokesman Jose Rodriguez.
In late July, the city declared the university’s outbreak over because seven weeks had passed with just two cases linked to campus, he said. If infections begin to surge again, a second outbreak could be declared.
