2011 WV Public Health Symposium: Protecting the Health of the Community We Serve Nov 17 & 18
State Epidemiologist Dr. Loretta Haddy, director of the Office of Epidemiology and Prevention Services is pleased to announce that registration for the 2011 WV Public Health Symposium: Protecting the Health of the Community We Serve at the Charleston Town Center Marriott November 17 & 18, is now open.
The keynote will be Gina Kolata (photo below), award-winning senior writer for the NY Times, will speak on obesity and public health. Kolata, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, has authored six books. To read more about Gina Kolata click here.

Several of the topics included this year are: emerging STDs, shigellosis, HPV, hepatitis c, rabies, healthcare associated infections and more. Attendees won’t want to miss the session on “Meaningful Use” and how it will impact Public Health. Meaningful Use is a part of ARRA in 2009 that involves electronic exchange of health information to improve the quality of health care. Friday ends with updates from five divisions within the Office of Epidemiology and Prevention Services on Hot Topics affecting the health care community.
