Schools, DHHR partner to fight serious flu season

With West Virginia health officials predicting a tougher-than-normal influenza season, the state departments of Education and Health and Human Resources are partnering to fight the flu’s spread among students.
Last week, the state announced its flu problem had expanded from “regional” classification to “widespread.” Shannon McBee, flu coordinator for the state Bureau for Public Health, said Monday she expects the designation will stay widespread this week. She said 8.5 percent of all doctor visits are currently for flu-like symptoms.
